Interesting Elephant Facts
Elephants are the largest land animals on our planet. An African elephant can measure up to 13 feet tall, and can weigh over 16,000 pounds - the combined weight of more than eight Volkswagen Beetles!
Elephants are extremely intelligent, and are well known for their long-term memory capacity. They exhibit emotional behavior and often utilize tools with their trunks, which has earned them an intellectual standing in the animal kingdom with other highly advanced animals like primates and dolphins.
Elephants have special sound receptors in their legs and feet, which can detect low frequencies and vibrations in the ground. It is believed that elephants use this special "sub-hearing" to communicate with other elephants from a distance.
Aside from a limited number of African lion prides, human beings are an elephant's only true predator.
